This live broadcast with Q&A is about waterproof jackets for trail and ultra running. Next week I’ll cover waterproof trousers.
I’m live every Tuesday at 1pm (UK time) where I show you what running gear I’m testing each week and answer your questions about it. Join me next week!
There are 2 more Tuesday live broadcasts left this year, then Gear Chat will change to Wednesday 8:30pm UK time so more people can watch!
I cover the 5 types of waterproof jacket, the difference between a windproof and waterproof jacket, taped seams, breathability, waterproofness and features to look for like pockets, fit, venting, drawcords, hoods and thumb loops. Then I recommend 6 that I have used or heard good recommendations about from previous Trail Running magazine UK testers (I used to edit this magazine).
Here are the ones I recommend for trail and ultra runners. They are all lightweight 2.5 layer jackets. I would pack or wear these for short or day-long races and training runs with an ok-ish forecast. (Please note that for remote, long day or multi-day mountain races or runs in the UK in winter or with a bad forecast I would personally use a more robust 3-layer jacket.)
